Nature’s finest technical fabric.
Close-fitting, comfortable and functional – the perfect winter base layer.
Nature’s finest technical fabric.
Made from the wool of merino sheep living in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, our Superfine Merino 200 Zip takes full advantage of the incredible properties of nature’s finest technical fabric.
It’s very rare and very special – and we believe it’s the best performing next-to-the-skin fibre money can buy.
It has an uncanny ability to regulate your temperature in a wide range of conditions. It’s nice and cosy in the cold but never too hot when the temperature, or your activity level, start to rise. It ‘wicks’ moisture extremely efficiently and, because wool is the only fibre in the world which can absorb vapour, it delays the onset of sweating – keeping you far more comfortable and eliminating that unpleasant chilling feeling you sometimes get when you take a break or slow down.
Because of the high quality of fibre we specify, the Superfine Merino Zip is incredibly soft and luxuriously comfortable next to the skin – there’s none of the unpleasant itching you get with ordinary wool or poor quality merino. It also offers total protection from the harmful effects of UV radiation.
Superfine Merino has another remarkable property which makes it particularly suitable for a base layer. It has an amazing natural resistance to the build up of odour. You really can wear it for days on end without feeling the need to freshen it up. On a long trip, where washing facilities are limited, it’s a real boon – to your popularity with your mates, if nothing else.
And when the time finally does come for a bit of ‘squad rotation’ you’ll find it’s simplicity itself to wash. Just throw it in the machine or rinse it through with travel wash. Hang it out to dry and it’ll be ready to go again the next day.
Our Superfine Merino 200 Zip is designed in a classic, technical base layer style with a deep, ventilating neck zip and long sleeves with comfortable thumb loops – a small detail but an important one. Because, as every outdoor enthusiast knows, you can’t have warm hands with cold, wet wrists.
A Note on Provenance
Not all wool is the same – and not all merino wool is anything like as good as ours. Our Superfine Merino comes exclusively from Merino Sheep roaming the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Understandably, these sheep are particularly well adapted to a wide range of conditions – from alpine blizzards to intense summer heat. Only a small proportion of the world’s merino wool actually comes from this area. And, of this small proportion, Rohan select only from the finest 10% – because that’s the softest and the highest performing. Naturally, it’s the scarcest and most expensive but it’s also the very best, of the best, of the best. We think it’s well worth it.
