This evolution of our Pinnacle Jacket is stronger and even more abrasion resistant than our ground breaking and hugely well-received Version 1.0.

Incredibly, it’s also softer and more comfortable to wear.

It represents the current ‘state-of-the-science’ for rugged, all-mountain shells.

Intended to be a hardwearing, workhorse jacket for keen outdoor enthusiasts and mountain professionals, the design of the Pinnacle Jacket v2.0 takes advantage of the most recent innovations in fabric technology and garment construction to ramp up the durability and shave the overall weight of the jacket – by almost 10%.

It’s made from our class-leading waterproof Barricade™ fabric with our highly effective Permanent Water Repellency™ finish. Barricade™ works a bit differently from ordinary waterproof/breathables. It operates dynamically and responds to your body temperature and the humidity of the surrounding environment. We call it Active Diffusion™. Basically, the steamier it gets inside, the more vapour escapes - keeping you comfortable in a much wider range of conditions.

The Permanent Water Repellency™ finish is not quite as glamorous - but it’s just as important. It forces water to bead up on the surface of the fabric rather than soaking into the jacket. Without it, breathability would be impaired and, in really cold conditions, the jacket would freeze up, becoming stiff, heavy and uncomfortable.

The Pinnacle Jacket features two big, waterproof chest pockets, mounted high to avoid a rucksack hip-belt, and a full-length waterproof zip. The Riri Aquazip™ is probably the best waterproof zip in the world right now for outdoor use. It uses moulded plastic teeth which mesh to form a seal. It eliminates the need for a complex system of protective storm-flaps behind and in front of the zips. It’s also hardwearing and super-tough. Although not cheap, we think the benefits far outweigh the cost.

The hood is stiffened and offers full protection in the worst weather. It adjusts with our neat One-Pull™ adjustment system and no-flap drawcords. The hood is the perfect size to go over winter hats or a balaclava and, at a push, will accommodate a compact skiing or climbing helmet. It can easily be rolled down when not in use and secures with a snap fastener.

Two internal stretchy mesh pockets are designed to keep small items safe and secure - but nice and handy. They also make a great place to dry off inner gloves.

The sleeve features a small, zipped accessory pocket. It’s big enough to take a compass but it’s also a great place to keep smaller, ‘easily lost’ items like lip salve.

The ventilation system on the Pinnacle Jacket is a bit different from the more commonly used ‘pit zip’ system - in that it actually works! Our ventilation zips are mounted on the chest so they’re easy to use and, when you open them, they stay open and work immediately, dumping heat in seconds. The zips are sited well clear of rucksack straps and offer a two-way operation so you can fine-tune the ventilation.

The jacket features a neat, detachable spindrift collar. Take it off to save weight and zip it on for full protection from powder snow or wind-blown spindrift. It features a grippy elastic facing which keeps it exactly where it should be.

Barricade™ Washing Instructions

Rohan Barricade™ waterproofs are easy to care for. Simply machine wash them at 40°C with a regular detergent. We recommend a second rinse to remove all traces of the detergent from the fabric. Don’t use fabric softeners or bleaching agents. Garments may be drip dried. Over time, the water repellent treatment on the surface of the fabric may become less effective and water will stop beading up on the outside of the jacket. Tumble drying on a warm, not hot, setting or careful ironing on the coolest setting will rejuvenate the finish.
