Ambleside

Ambleside’s a paradise for walkers and hikers. It’s ideally situated at the northern end of Lake Windermere and it’s close to Rydal Water and Grasmere. Plus, Ambleside is also a good gateway to the Langdale and Coniston Fells, so it’s a great base for exploring the Lake District.

The Cumbrian countryside is absolutely spectacular and you can discover the very best of it if you follow the route from Ambleside to Troutbeck via Wansfell. You’ll see the atmospheric Townend farmhouse and take the challenging route over Wansfell Pike. From up here, you’ll get unbelievable views over the surrounding fells.

If you’d like to reconnect with nature, try the Post Knott route. It’s much shorter than Ambleside to Troutbeck, but you’ll be treated to spectacular views of Lake Windermere. The route’s also lined with potential picnic spots, so it’s a great place to walk in the morning before enjoying lunch on your way home.
