Local Knowledge
Stratford-upon-Avon is most famous for being the birthplace of the most influential playwright of all time, and rightly so! Just some of the Shakespearean attractions within the town include his Birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, the Holy Trinity Church (where he is allegedly buried) and the fantastic RSC Theatre. The latter also boasts a magnificent rooftop terraced restaurant and bar.
However, there is so much more to Stratford than Shakespeare. The canal system is great for exploring, and the River Avon has several short (around 20-30 minutes) walks where you can see the Church, Theatre and maybe even some local wildlife, including the Butterfly Farm which is the largest butterfly enclosure in Europe.
Stratford also has an abundance of restaurants and tea rooms within walking distance of the Rohan shop, from Marco Pierre White’s New York Italian, to a 1940s themed tea room, award-winning fish and chip shops, and Paxton and Whitfield - a Royally Warranted cheesemongers.
Along the lovely gardens running along the river and behind the theatre there is a stone at the base of a tree that is dedicated to the star of “Gone with the Wind” and “A Streetcar Named Desire”, Vivien Leigh.
Dragon Boat Racing is an annual event that takes place on the River Avon every September at the Boat Club, Swans Nest Lane, Stratford-upon-Avon. It is a fun filled water sports activity consisting of teams of up to 17 to compete in Dragon Boats - large canoe-like vessels, to take part in exciting, challenging races throughout the day. Come and cheer on a team.
And last but not least, Magic Alley is a family adventure destination for explorers and storytellers. The experience takes you into a full-sized street packed with magical objects – but we will let you find out for yourself.
