Local Knowledge

Exeter’s underground passages date back to the 14th century and are well worth a look. These were once used to bring fresh water into the city. Above ground, head to the Exeter Royal Albert Memorial Museum to learn a thing or two about botany, archaeology, geology and fine art.

Be sure to lap up Exeter’s idyllic quayside. Go for a walk along the riverside, hire a bike or simply soak up the atmosphere and watch the world go by. Other scenic areas include the Northernhay Gardens, Rougemont Gardens and the University of Exeter’s Botanical Gardens where tours are available. For a more planned walk, try the Exeter Green Circle – a twelve-mile route which is split into 5 sections.

Exeter, which is very much a cosmopolitan city, also offers many culinary delights. It’s even been voted one of the top places to eat out in the UK by Which Good Food Guide. Princesshay, where Rohan is situated, offers many options serving international cuisines and if you’re eating on the go, there are delicatessens and markets offering seasonal local food, including the Exeter Farmers Market which runs every Thursday. Our store team would also recommend Coal and Carluccio’s.

Taste real ales and fine wines in the historic pubs around the Cathedral Yard and High Street which apparently have once been frequented by Sir Francis Drake and Charles Dickens!

Exeter also boards great days out such as the Gin Festival, the Food Festival and many others, all set within the city centre.
